Find the right resolution for you
Conflict comes in all shapes and sizes. Sometimes all parties are happy to get together and work through it. Other times, you need to speak to different people in different ways.
The important thing is you’re able to provide the right support to your employees, and help your business get back on track.
At LK Mediation Services, I recognise there isn’t a standard solution to mediation, so I provide several complementary services to help reach the right resolution for you.
Chemistry sessions
Resolving conflict starts with rapport. Participants in any mediated or facilitated conversations need confidence in the external mediator.
All my services include free chemistry sessions to ensure you’ve found the right person to help.
Mediation Services
Confidential, impartial discussions to address conflict and reach a resolution, allowing you to get your business back on track quickly.
Individual Issues
An informal way to bring individuals together to discuss their concerns and agree a plan to move forward.
Benefits of workplace mediation
- Quick solutions – mediation cases are often resolved in as little as a day
- Cost effective – you won’t lose hours of lost productivity and management time while you conduct investigations and hearings
- Mutually agreeable resolution – each party takes accountability for their own actions as they work to address the issue
What is workplace mediation?
It’s a voluntary, confidential, and impartial process. Conducted on a “without prejudice” basis, the aim of mediation is to address conflict and reach a resolution.
The mediator acts as an impartial facilitator to help participants speak freely about their frustrations and concerns. They seek opportunities to improve understanding and agree next steps for everyone.
Meetings are ideally held in a neutral venue face-to-face, or virtually if needed.
The steps:
- Identify the issue and find your mediator
- Get buy-in to explore mediation (link to your blog on how to broach the subject)
- Build rapport through chemistry sessions (for you and the potential participants)
- Mediator meets with parties individually
- Mediator brings both parties together
- Resolutions are agreed between the parties
- The business is informed, where agreed
So, talk to me about your conflict situation, and let’s find a way to make things productive again.
Let’s find a resolutionFacilitated conversations
Let people have their say, without the stress of you doing it. Communicate tough messages with external support.
Benefits of facilitated conversations
- Say the right things – take away the stress of getting it wrong; use an external facilitator who knows just what to say
- Tackle the issue – have timely conversations about long-term sickness, performance, and behavioural concerns to offer support and move issues forward
- Be impartial – get a fair outcome by using someone independent to review and address an issue
What is a facilitated conversation?
There are times when you aren’t the right person to deliver a message. You know the other person too well, it’s a difficult relationship, or you just know your emotions will take over.
A facilitated conversation takes that stress away. It’s a way of getting the message across, without you delivering the message.
You tell me what needs to be said. I’ll say it in a sensitive and supportive way to get the best response from everyone.
The steps:
- Identify the message to be delivered
- Find an expert to help you get that message across
- Provide them with all the information they need
- Wait for them to deliver the message
- Be open to comments and feedback as employees respond
- Get support to address concerns and implement the change
Don’t lose sleep over having a tough conversation. Outsource it to me to get the best outcome for you and your employees.
Conflict coaching
Develop individual skills to manage difficult situations, when mediation isn’t possible or additional support is needed.
Benefits of conflict coaching
- Address the issue – support employees to move forward when mediation isn’t the right option for all parties
- Develop new skills – help employees develop skills so they’re better equipped to deal with conflict situations in the future
- Minimise future risk – provide follow-up support from mediation sessions to ensure issues are fully resolved
What is conflict coaching?
Some people are bad at managing conflict. They either avoid the situation and let it fester, or react poorly and make things worse.
Conflict coaching provides 1:1 support to help your employees develop the right skills and techniques to proactively address difficult situations.
Sessions focus on specific concerns and are designed to support collaboration within your teams.
The steps
- Identify an individual who’s struggling with conflict
- Get buy-in to explore 1:1 conflict coaching
- Build rapport through chemistry sessions (for you and the individual)
- Arrange 1:1 sessions to develop conflict management skills
- Address the current issue and help seek closure (if required)
- Build confidence for managing future conflict
Conflict can be difficult for anyone to manage, but when you don’t have the right skills, it can feel impossible. Support individuals, and their teams, by improving their ability to manage difficult situations.
